Let me share a story that may sound all too familiar to many of us.
Siya is a bright 7-year-old girl from a village in South 24 Parganas. She studies in a Bengali-medium rural private school and comes first in class every year. Her parents beam with pride at her achievements.
One day, Siya’s cousin Dimpi, who is two years younger, visited from town. In the evening, as the family sat together chatting, Siya’s aunt asked her to sing a rhyme. Siya recited a short four-line rhyme in a soft voice. Then it was Dimpi’s turn.
Dimpi sang a longer, more complex rhyme, fluently and confidently—with perfect pronunciation.
Siya was stunned.
How could her younger cousin sing such difficult English words so easily? Where did she learn that confidence?
Sensing Siya’s thoughts, her mother sighed and said aloud,
“Dimpi goes to an English-medium missionary school in town. We don’t have schools like that here in our village.”
Dimpi’s mother added,
“The teachers speak only in English and encourage children to speak the language daily. The teachers there are highly qualified and the learning environment builds confidence.”
That evening left a quiet mark on Siya—not out of jealousy, but from a lingering question in her heart:
“I wish I also had this chance.”
Can you relate?
This is not just Siya’s story. It is the shared reality of thousands of children in rural India, where opportunity is dictated not by potential, but by location.
The result?
A growing confidence gap, a sense of inferiority, and anxiety around communication and self-expression that follows them into adulthood.
What Are We Doing About It?
At Krishworks, we recognized this gap—and decided to build a bridge.
Our mission is simple yet powerful:

Our Dream
We dream of a day when every child—rural or urban—has a fair chance to grow, to learn, to communicate, and to feel confident.
A day when no Siya ever has to wonder,
“Why not me?”
